As mentioned in my previous post, I was revisiting the pixel pen for this one! Super happy with how it turned out.
I was aiming to recreate the vibe of older Saline and Deadmeat art, circa 2022 and early 2023, with the pixel pen brush. But their entire dynamic has shifted since then, so the atmosphere and relationship between the two feels different, which is why I went for a different kind of posing and composition. In previous incarnations, Deadmeat was more of a loyal, devoted "pet" to Saline, obsessive and desperate to please. In a way, the current Saline has become the one who dotes endlessly on a detached and often unresponsive Deadmeat. A Deadmeat who has grown tired of being stitched back over and over until there's barely any flesh left to put back together again. Just so Saline has someone who depends on them, for a sense of purpose in an otherwise endlessly boring immortal life, at the cost of the other.
Here is some older art as a reference point. I kind of miss drawing Deadmeat so wild, and I realise how much I drew him licking everything back then. (I blame the direct Secco from JoJos Bizarre Adventure influence that shaped his character lol).
And as always, here are some variations! I always like the green/turquoise tint, I think it makes everything look more clinical, if that even makes sense.
